Nokia 8 Receiving Pro Camera Mode With New Update

The Nokia 8 is now receiving a new update that brings the Pro Camera mode to the high-end device. The Pro Camera mode provides users with full manual control over the camera’s white balance, manual focus, ISO settings, shutter speed, and exposure compensation. Individuals who own the Nokia 8 will hence now be able to take quality images without relying on the software for extensive post-processing, provided they know what they’re doing. The manufacturer previously promised that the Pro Camera mode, which was initially available on the Nokia 7 Plus and the Nokia 8 Sirocco, will be rolled out to the company’s older handsets, and its Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas mentioned that the imaging framework of the Nokia 8 has also been overhauled in an effort to improve the overall performance of the device’s cameras.

Camera performance and the lack of the Pro Camera mode are among the biggest criticisms aimed at the Nokia 8. French imaging company DxOMark gave the Nokia 8 an overall camera score of only 68, which is significantly lower compared to what contemporary flagships usually receive from the company, with most newer models scoring north of 90. Among the key criticisms against the cameras of the Nokia 8 are poor low-light performance, image noise, low detail preservation, and various artifacts. The Pro Camera mode and the overhauled imaging framework could help resolve some of those key concerns regarding the camera performance of the Nokia 8.

The changelog attached to the software package also shows that the update has a file size of 603.2MB, and it brings improvements to the smartphone’s user interface and system stability. The Nokia 8 is the flagship smartphone offering of HMD Global for 2017 and is powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset. The handset sports a 5.3-inch IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels, and contains 4GB of RAM and 64GB of flash storage, which can be expanded using a microSD card with a capacity of up to 256GB. The device has two dual rear cameras that are equipped with one 13-megapixel RGB sensor and one 13-megapixel monochrome sensor. The front-facing module also comes with a 13-megapixel sensor. The Nokia 8 originally shipped with Android 7.1.1 Nougat but was updated to Android 8.0 Oreo in November and to Android 8.1 Oreo this February.
