According to a , the U.S. military is secretly developing an artificial intelligence-based program to track hidden nuclear missiles in North Korea and other parts of the world.
The report states that the publically available details of the program are hidden behind heavy jargons used in this year’s Pentagon budget.
An official who is involved in the program said that this is one of the programs that they are working on to avenge the United States from a prospective nuclear attack. Another official added “We should be doing everything in our power to find that missile before they launch it and make it increasingly harder to get it off (the ground).”
The program, carried out in utmost secrecy, aims at anticipating a nuclear attack, tracking mobile launchers and hidden nuclear missiles. The AI-based program will be an autonomous system capable of calculating vast amounts of data obtained from satellite imagery and other credible sources to find out whether the preparation of a nuclear attack is in motion anywhere in the world.
With this program, US government would have more time to prepare and intercept nuclear missiles in case any country initiates an attack.
America is advancing doing everything in its might to make use of artificial intelligence and deep learning to develop combat systems that can detect and destroy enemy’s mobile launchers hidden in tunnels and forests.
Though this project has been kept as a top-level secret, America has openly accepted that they are focusing on artificial intelligence by allocating funds for AI-based programs to strengthen their defense. America is closely competing with China and Russia in integrating artificial intelligence in military weapons.
With all the advancements, the probability of a system on the lines of ‘Skynet’ is not a distant dream.
